Thirty-nine car brands took part in the 2022 Automobile Awards, where different prizes were presented in the prestigious setting of the Automobile Club de France, located on the Place de la Concorde in Paris. The Jury’s Special Award recognises an established partnership between a manufacturer or equipment supplier and another brand, all sectors together, for its relevance, originality and exclusivity.

Meeting of design, luxury and expertise

Embedded in DS DESIGN STUDIO PARIS, the CMF (Colours, Materials and Finishes) division embodies the perfect combination of design, luxury and expertise. Consisting of a team with varied creative backgrounds, the designers are continually seeking exactly the right lines, textures and shades. This search is backed up by the remarkable expertise of the upholstery and paint workshops, the excellence of partner suppliers but also the creative craftspeople, who DS Automobiles has always worked with to make its concept cars stand out by developing proposed future materials with a high quality and exclusive finish.

Driven by this search for creativity and distinction, the DS Automobiles team launched a design competition for the best creative craftspeople in France, in partnership with the Studio Métiers Rares. From the first competition, appealing to professional artists’ innovative powers through a technical and aesthetic challenge enabled a deepening of the creative and innovative bond between DS Automobiles and these professionals who are either established or emerging from art’s creative scene.

A unique DS 9 and a second edition on its way

The first DS x MÉTIERS D’ART resulted in the design of an exclusive DS 9 interior trim by the winner Anne Lopez. DS 9 MÉTIERS D’ART introduced stucco-made interior trim. The coating is etched by the artist and it dries as the work progresses. The movement given to the parts is helped by the play of colours with the parts that catch the light, particularly the gilt work, in front of others in the shade. DS 9 MÉTIERS D’ART is a one-off model that’s now being exhibited in DS STORE across Europe.

A second edition of DS x MÉTIERS D’ART – entitled DS LUMEN – is now underway to conceive the effects of light through material. The result will be the design of a special covering for a grille on 100% electric New DS 3 E-TENSE.

DS Automobiles also shone in other categories with, in particular, a podium place in the SUV of the Year classification for New DS 7. The Brand has already received a Jury’s Special Award in 2020 for its relationship with the Louvre Museum.
